Curious?
LanChelms is a crew of people with a common interest of having a good time while playing computer games. With 160 people at our last LAN party, we run the largest LAN party in Massachusetts.

What is a LAN party, exactly?

A LAN party, or a party revolving around a Local Area Network, is a simple yet fun concept: whoever wants to have a good time brings their computer to a location and hooks them together. From there, participants play games until they grow too tired to continue.

Why is LanChelms cool?

Even though we ask for a $25 cover fee, you get grub to stuff your face, drink to fill your bladder, and enough entertainment to cover 12 or more hours. With a movie costing anywhere from $6-10, we’d say what you get for what you pay is the best deal on entertainment around. Also, the money that you pay goes right back to you. We don’t keep any for ourselves whatsoever, it is all used on food, equipment, and location costs.

Where did you get the idea to do a large LAN party?

While LAN parties are not uncommon at all (www.lanparty.com) our drive to host a large one stemmed from weekends spent entertaining ourselves with LAN parties of 6-10 people. At one of our small LAN parties, we decided we’d like to push for something larger: and thus the idea grew, over the course of a few months, into a reality.

What if I don’t like the game that you guys want to play?

This is always a concern: nobody wants to pay money and be bored. That specifically is what is so great about a large LAN party: if you don’t want to do something, there is most likely someone else who shares your desire to do something else. And thus, you find your own side activity with which to entertain yourself. Anyways, the LAN party isn’t 100% computer games; everyone in the room is just like you - friendships get formed.

Jeff Terrace  |  Head Coordinator

Jefflanchelms.com
Name: Jeff Terrace
DOB: 09.07.1985
Handle: Jkt77
Position: Head Coordinator

Jeff is currently a Computer Science major at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Between classes, he manages to have enough time to give LanChelms his best.

He is currently working as a Web Application Development Summer Intern at Raytheon Corporation. He has previously interned at Mitre Corporation and Bomara Associates.

For LanChelms, Jeff takes the role of Head Coordinator. Since the beginning, Jeff has been there to give an overall direction to the LanChelms party. He has helped it grow from a vision contained in the eyes of a few friends to the massive and fun-filled party it is today.

Brian Hatfield  |  Media Coordinator

Brianlanchelms.com
Name: Brian Hatfield
DOB: 06.14.1984
Handle: ShizCakes
Position: Media Coordinator

As a communications major at Fitchburg State College, Brian has been forced to fit LanChelms in with 'more important' things. However, his past experience has enabled him to find a balance amongst all the important things in life.

While working as the producer for CHSTv's football productions, he had to always be thinking up new tricks and new ways to improve his craft. He feels that this skill is something LanChelms will be able to use as it continues to grow.

Currently, Brian is involved in live theatre, in addition to working part time at a major retailer. He is the sound designer and engineer for FSC's Falcon Players, doing live audio for their shows.

His media experience plays a major part in what he does for LanChelms, and as Media Coordinator, all the responsibility of documenting what happens at the events rests upon his shoulders.

For LanChelms, his past and current experience is combined, to keep him coming back to be involved with putting on the most entertaining LAN possible.

Paul Sheehy  |  Server Coordinator

Paullanchelms.com
Name: Paul Sheehy
DOB: 10.09.1984
Handle: hezaplaya
Position: Server Coordinator

Paul is a little different than the other admins. While all of the admins have an affinity for computers, Paul is a bit on the obsessed side. He currently owns 11 computers spanning 4 different architectures including x86, x86_64, ppc, and sparc64. Paul spends nearly all of his free time sitting in his room trying out new unix operating systems and setting up and trying different firewalls and nat's, netbooting sparc servers and installing BSD on them with only a slip connection. Paul aspires to be some kind of network administrator later in life, and he hopes to continue LanChelms for as long as possible. Most importantly, unlike most of the other admins, he is no longer going to talk about himself in the third person.

So that's pretty much me. I spend all of my time playing with somewhat abstract computer hardware and software. I'm looking to buy an alpha machine somewhere in the not so distant future, and after that who knows. I can't wait for the next LanChelms, and I hope I can exceed everyone's expectations as far as servers go.

Craig Goldstein  |  Site Coordinator

Craiglanchelms.com
Name: Craig Goldstein
DOB: 05.17.1985
Handle: LordHelmet61829
Position: Site Coordinator

Currently, Craig is a college student between schools right now. He hopes to be attending school again shortly, but where and what to study is a still a mystery. Craig joined the LanChelms staff shortly after the first LanChelms event, and has been deeply involved ever since. Outside of LanChelms, he works full time at Best Buy, and tries to maintain his long list of expensive hobbies despite his lack of money.

Craig is one of two Site Coordinators for LanChelms. His job is mainly to plan and deligate all of the tasks during setup and breakdown the week before the event and the night that follows the event.

Position: Sponsorship Coordinator

I am currently working full time as a landscaper and trying to keep my personal business and website, Controlled-Insanity PC Mods afloat. I joined LanChelms after attending many successful parties, wanting to bring my knowledge of computers and marketing to hopefully make LanChelms even more successful.

Ron Hampton  |  Event Staff

Beachlanchelms.com
Name: Ron Hampton
DOB: 09.07.1985
Handle: Beach
Position: Event Staff

The truth is, no one really knows why Mr. Beach is here. He showed up one day at the church and Jeff said "Lets put him to work and promise free food." Beach has been moving tables quite contently ever since. A few tables here, a tostido there... all the while with a grin from ear to ear.

Okay, kidding aside I'm thrilled to be here. I have helped set up and break down the last three LanChelms, and attended LanChelms for the first time at the most recent event. I am a Loss Prevention Detective and credit fraud investigator for Sears Roebuck and Co. by day, hard core disco devil dancer by night. My only goal with my life is to one day be a mystery admin like my hero, TTH.

Ara Jeknavorian (AJ)  |  Event Staff

AJlanchelms.com
Name: Ara Jeknavorian
DOB: 03.19.1985
Handle: vardig1
Position: Event Staff

AJ is attending RPI as a Computer Science and Mathematics Major. He is working at Raytheon as a Technical Development Intern, but still spends his time in the Boston bars.

AJ mastered the art of killing 16 men with a pump shotty in CS.

AJ is now running the server at Phi Kappa Theta, while using the server to download his personal files...

AJ brings all the grease to LanChelms...

AJ has had scheduling problems with the LanChelms event. But he has sworn he would only go to one Lan Party EVER in his life, and that is LanChelms because of the superior quality of prizes, speed, food, and grease.

I fart in your face for fun.
